Travis County Jail Roster

The Travis County, Texas Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific individual is in custody. On the TravisCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. The official search tool is supported by the Travis County Sheriff's Office through the online portal Find an Inmate. Besides online search, information can be obtained by phone by calling the jail or by visiting the facility's reception in person. The roster is regularly updated and reflects individuals currently in the sheriff's custody.

Search Current Inmates in Travis Jail

To find a person held in Travis County Jail, use one of the three methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to the official Find an Inmate page on the Travis County Sheriff's Office website.
  2. Enter the person's last name. Optionally, add the first name to narrow down the results.
  3. If you know the booking number, enter it instead of the name — this is the most accurate way to search.
  4. Click the search button. The system will display a list of individuals matching your criteria.

For publicly accessible court information, you can also use TravisCourt.us.

What you need for the search:

  • The person's full legal name
  • Or the booking number, if known

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

Find Travis Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment an individual is officially admitted to the detention facility. This process includes registering personal data, photographing, fingerprinting, and recording charges.

Each record contains:

  • A unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges
  • Name of the arresting agency
  • Basic identifying information of the detainee

Access to these records online is available through the Find an Inmate portal. Once you find the person in the roster, the system will display booking details, including charges and the date of custody.

If you need official copies of court documents or more detailed case information, contact the District Clerk's Office. Requests for official certified copies can be sent by mail:

For state-level criminal history checks, the Texas Department of Public Safety offers a separate criminal history search tool. If the individual has already been transferred to a state-level facility, use the TDCJ inmate search.

Search the Travis Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The Find an Inmate portal offers two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field. This is a mandatory parameter. Adding the first name significantly narrows the results — useful when the last name is common. Pay attention to spelling: even one mistake can lead to zero results.

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it — the system will find the specific record without additional filters. This is the fastest way to the information you need.

If the Search Yields No Results

Try the following:

  • Check the spelling of the last name. Try alternative versions (e.g., with or without a hyphen).
  • If the person was recently arrested, wait a few hours — there may be a delay between actual custody and the record appearing in the system.
  • The person may have already been released on bail or transferred to another facility. In this case, the record disappears from the active roster.
  • Call the jail directly at 512-854-9770 to clarify the status.

Separately, you can check for active warrants through the warrant search tool of the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Travis

The Travis County inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There is usually a certain amount of time — from a few minutes to several hours — between the actual custody and the record appearing in the online system, depending on the facility's workload and the time of day.

Main limitations to consider:

  • Delay after arrest. A recently detained person may not appear in the roster immediately. The booking process takes time.
  • Disappearance of records after release. When a person is released on bail, by court order, or after serving a sentence, their record is removed from the active roster. The portal only displays those currently in custody.
  • Not an archive. The roster does not contain the history of all past bookings. To obtain archival records, contact the Sheriff's Office or submit a public information request through the Travis County Public Records Department.
  • Transferred inmates. If a person has been transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, they will no longer appear in the county roster.

To check court dates, use the Travis County criminal case search — it is recommended to verify information the day before the scheduled date.
